The village of Griante, facing Bellagio, lies fifty metres above the level of the lake just where the Lario is at its widest. Cadenabbia, rising from the slopes of Monte Crocione is one of the most important hamlets which makes up this quiet tranquil village

The name Cadenabbia derives originally from “Ca dei Nauli” or “Casa dei Barcaioli” as in olden times the hotel used to be an inn, where merchants from Lecco and Como, using special flat bottomed boats to take their wares and provisions up and down the lake, stopped to rest and eat.
